Bio: Dan Margules recently escaped from the world of software engineering to focus on more creative endeavors. He wrote, produced and directed Begleiter, starring Ken Osmond ("Leave it to Beaver") and featuring an original score by jazz fusion pioneer Alphonse Mouzon (Weather Report). The critically acclaimed film took home the Golden Oosik award for Best Short at the 2006 Anchorage International Film Festival. His other producing credits include Bar Moments starring 2004's Miss Bolivia, Elizabeth Bress. The short film, directed by Adam Rudder, premiered at the 2005 San Diego Film Festival.

Dan, a former jazz critic, optioned his first feature-length screenplay, West of 5, to Mad Rabbit Films, where it is currently in development with one of the stars of "Dawson's Creek" attached to the lead role. In 2006, Dan completed his first rewrite assignment, The Legend of Boomer Jack, for Twinstar Entertainment. The family film is based on the true story of a vagabond railroad dog in 1915 northern California.

In 2005, Dan helped found San Diego Filmmakers, a not-for-profit networking organization dedicated to growing and strengthening the filmmaking community of San Diego through networking. Free monthly events feature prominent guest speakers working in the industry and are attended by 50-100 people interested in all aspects of filmmaking in San Diego. Dan served as president of this group, which, at that time, was the largest of its kind in San Diego.

Additionally, since 2004, Dan has served as a judge for BestFest America, the largest student film festival in the country. He was a founding moderator of the Scriptwriters Network's regional screenwriters group and is a member of the San Diego Screenwriters Association. He was also invited to speak on a panel of independent filmmakers at the 2004 Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles and at the 2006 Imperial Beach Film Festival.
