Bavaria
My great, great grandfather, from whom I inherit my family name, apparently came from northern Bavaria. Specifically from the town of Kulmbach in Ober Franken/Upper Franconia. From discussion & linguistics, often combined, as far as I've insofar been able to determine we are specifically Frankish by tribe. This has proved somewhat difficult to confirm for certain, however.Having settled in a region of the US with a somewhat substantial German population, the language seems to have remained in use in our branch of our family up until my grandfather's passing in 1955. I am currently the only member of our family I am aware of who speaks much of any of such today, however. :\ And I am, at most, only passingly conversant with our ancestral dialect.
